Tesco speech Good day, Ladies and Gentlemen. I am very pleased with the opportunity you have presented me with. Being here today at the London School of Economics is a true honour. My name is Volfgangs and I am here today to talk about Tesco. Specifically the problems we are facing and have faced in the past few months. As well as about our efforts to solve these problems, which do include changes in our stores and our products, as well as our attitude. Now, you probably already know that it has not been going too well this past year. That our shares have dropped, approximately 20 %. This was the reason why Tesco's market value dropped down to 5 billion pounds. Since then the first change we have had is the new chief executive officer, Philip Clarke. He has been a great addition to our team and already has taken things in his hands and results are already starting to show. First we decided on lowering the prices for some of our products, the ones that you could say are our customer favourites. It did not however have the effect we had hoped for. Also at that time we had already lost a fair share of our customers to our rivals. So we knew that bigger changes had to be made, which fortunately for us were already in making. We changed the interior of our biggest stores, which we also hope to do with the rest of our stores. So, what did we go? We started out with the layout, made it more appealing for the customers. We then moved on to changing the colours as well as we added paintings on the walls and etc. This we did for the purpose of again making it more appealing to our customers. Imagine what kind of better effect brighter as well as softer colours, friendly paintings and the all the new smells at our stores had, compared to what we had before.
