Unit 2 – Section B Transmission of Values In a health and social care environment there are many codes and conducts that carer providers should abide by, if they chose not to abide the rules and regulations it could resort in consequences both for the provider and service user. In this section of work I plan to outline what the transmissions of values are in communication and why they are important in health and social care settings. For each transmission value, I will identify the value and explain how it can be transmitted, I will then also give an example for each value to show how it can be admitted and applied to alternative client groups. In total there are ten different transmission care values to be applied in a health and social care setting and they are; awareness of needs, relationships, understanding a service user, respect for difference, maintaining personal dignity, providing choice, encouraging independence, confidentiality, praise and promoting identity, (Moonie, 2005, page 101). Transmission of values is a process where health and social care workers administer the different care values to ensure each client receives a high standard of care.

Patients that are active participants in their own health care understand their responsibility in managing their care. Additionally, health promotion decreases hospital stays and may prevent disease related complications. In 2006 health care related spending exceed two-trillion dollars in the United States (Jadelhack, 2012). A huge amount of money is saved by promoting health and educating the public on preventable health problems (Goetzel, 2009).
Conflict Theory has a macro sociological approach which means it has been done on a large scale using statistics, figures and research. One main feature of Conflict Theory is that there are power differentials within society and that these are in place to control and constrain those who aren’t in power to enable them to keep valuable resources to themselves resulting in those who are not in power or within the “ruling classes” to face inequality as they are unable to access these resources. These resources are private education, health care and better quality of housing amongst others. Another feature of Conflict Theory is that this conflict will result in change and that society is ever changing. While this feature can be used to explain incidents and changes that have occurred within society there is still a large gap between the resources available to those who are considered lower class or underclass compared to those with wealth within the United Kingdom and according to The Guardian newspaper inequality has risen faster in Britain than in any other country since 1975.

The connections between life conditions and behaviour pose a particular challenge for research. The social determinants of health diagram shows that as you go further down the social ladder in each society life expectancy is shorter and most diseases are a lot more common down the social ladder. Health policies mostly tackle the social and economic determinants of health. A more intense health policy can achieve several things: It defines a vision for the future, which then helps to establish targets and points of reference for a shot term and medium term.
