Harmonium and Nettles Harmonium and Nettles both highlight the theme of memory. As they both are looking back over past memories that are painful, the poems feature the feelings of being helpless in stopping the hurt that was caused. The writer in Harmonium feels remorse for the things he hadn’t said to his father as Armitage states “then mouth in reply some shallow sorry phrase or word too starved of breath to make itself heard”. The writer in Nettles is protective of the recurring threat to his child that he can’t destroy. “rain had called up tall recruits behind the shed,” this quote shows the father cannot destroy them .They differ in the way they felt powerless however as in Nettles the father is feeling powerless because of a physical threat whereas in Harmonium it is an emotional threat of the inevibility of death and unspoken feelings that makes the writer feel powerless.
Log entry#2: Reflections on Manhood and A Dialogue with Scott Russell Sanders To my mind, the models of manhood must have certain characteristics. And here I would like to explore a few of the important ones. The first important characteristic is responsibility. Every man should accept responsibility for his action without any excuses. For example, when a male give someone promise, he should try the best to keep his word and maintain a good credit.
He was your friend!” he tells himself in an attempt to subside his cravings for his pet, but it is to no avail. The boy sees “his own trembling hand reach across the table,” as if his hand was determined to eat the drumstick and he had no free will, and the fingers of his hand “grasped a warm, crispy drumstick and pulled it toward his plate.” Despite referring throughout the story to the rooster still as Sunshine, even though he was being cooked for their meal, this shows that the narrator still thought of him as his friend, despite the “powerful temptation” that overtook his will to resist eating his dearly departed
Bronze Bow Summary Chapters 4-7 Daniel has come back to the house for a day or two to see how his family was doing. They gave him what food they had but he was still very hungry, he did not want to ask for more because he knew the response would be there is no more. He went to bed wishing he was with his friends in the cave and that he had a full meal. The next day was the Sabbath and a man named Jesus was going to speak at their synagogue. Daniel was exited to hear from Simon that he was a zealot like himself, but in the synagogue Daniel thought how could he be a zealot because he is saying let the Romans oppress us.

Dawe challenges his readers to reassess their personal values in their lives and of life itself. Many of whom would have survived the trip if not for the choices that Odysseus made. In addition to being homesick, we also witness Odysseus cry over songs about the Trojan War. In chapter eight of The Odyssey by homer, Odysseus, now traveling alone as all of his men have ceased to survive the journey, finds himself as a guest to the king and queen of the Phaeacians. Odysseus has yet to reveal his identity to the Phaeacians and is disguised as an average traveler. In honor of their guest, the king calls an assembly of his counselors to discuss providing a ship to Odysseus.
At first, he is a good strong leader, a figure of authority, but as the novel goes on, and his character begins to disintegrate. After going over the top, Stephen is left laying in the shellhole with a damaged leg; Weir attends to him when darkness falls. As the guns begin to die down the rest of the injured men try to make their way back to the trenches by dragging themselves. The sound, described as “like damp winds scraping down a sky of glass”, troubles Weir and he begins to shake. Eventually, he regresses back to childhood and crawls to Stephen, asking him to “hold me” and to “call me by my name”.
These words soft pity in the chief inspire, Touch’d with the dear remembrance of his sire. Then with his hand (as prostrate still he lay) The old man’s cheek he gently turn’d away. Now each by turns indulged the gush of woe; And now the mingled tides together flow: This low on earth, that gently bending o’er, A father one, and one a son deplore: But great Achilles different passions rend, And now his sire he mourns, and now his friend. Th’ infectious softness through the heroes ran; One universal solemn shower began; They bore as heroes, but they felt as man. XXIV.
From the beginning of the story he always identified Robert as “THIS BLIND MAN” (103). He constantly talks bad about Robert for a while in the story. When Robert is over to the house the narrator immediately notices how much attention his wife is giving to him and it made him act very dry toward Robert. All was bad with the narrator and Robert in the beginning, but after a while they started talking and got to know each other a little better because after all Robert was like a stranger to the narrator. At one point the narrator’s wife became sleepy in the later parts of the night and dosed off so that led to Robert and the narrator to have alone time to bond with each other.
