Both were prophets that spoke of the destruction caused to Israel because of its disobedience by not honoring Yahweh’s covenant. Hosea used his marriage to his wife Gomer to analyze and reference the relationship between Israel and Yahweh. No matter how unfaithful Gomer was she was still loved and forgiven by Hosea. Despite the fact that the people Israel broke the covenant Yahweh still loved and forgave them. The book of Hosea also compares the Yahweh and Israel relationship to that of a parent and child. As evidenced in Hosea 11 1, 4. Hosea believed that God saw Israel as a child, and indeed loved at as if it was. Hosea also condemned Israel for breaking there covenant with God, as this is a major theme of Hosea. The people of Israel broke it by worshipping other God’s showing a lack of faith in Yahweh, making foreign alliances, building fortifications, and denying social justice. In the book of Amos he too speaks on the broken covenant. He believed that Israel was held more responsible than other nations because Yahweh had held them to a higher standard. He references the Sinai covenant because of the mutual responsibilities the two shared with one another. Amos elaborated on the act that the curses attached to the covenant would be fulfilled. Throughout the times of Amos and Hosea there was a lot of political and social injustice going around. During these time the people of Israel were sinning against one another and not living up to Yahweh’s expectations. In the book of Amos, he explains how Israel has failed the poor. The rich exploited the poor at their expense. They wrongly accused the innocent and young women. In Hosea, he takes a political approach by focusing on how Israel broke the covenant
