All Celebrities Are Not Bad Role Models

“All celebrities are bad role models.” This is something I’ve heard from a lot of my friends. In the world today, celebrities are people who always have our attention. Whether their doing something good, it’s the bad that always stick out to us. Some may say celebrities are a bad influence. But can that be said about all of them? There are many celebrities who continue to motivate and influence the life of many. Most of the role model celebrities in the world wouldn’t be the people they are today if it weren’t for their past disappoints and struggles. Celebrities such as Demi Lavato, Oprah Winfrey and Michael Jordon, despite adversities, rose and became better individuals and can be labeled as positive role models for the world. For instance, in 2010, Demi Lavato, a famous singer and actress went to rehab for a nervous breakdown. It was later revealed that she battled an eating disorder, self-harming issue, and addiction with prescription pills. A year later she was better than ever. She released an album that became number one on the “Album Chart Billboard.” One of her best singles were “Skyscraper” which tells of her journey and also includes motivating lyrics. “Go on and try to tear me down, I will be rising from the ground like a Skyscraper,” she sings. She has since then raised awareness against bulimia, body image and self-cutting issues. She received recognition from the U.S Department of Health for her tireless work to help her peers who’s battling the same problem as her. She recently landed a gig as a judge on “The X Factor (US)”. Another instance is Oprah Winfrey, at the age of six she lived with her mother who was a maid. In the days when her mother was not home Oprah was repeatedly molested by male relatives and family friends.
