For my Grocery store marketing project I chose to look at my local supermarket store Albertsons. I walked around the store, this time with a more critical eye. The whole aim was to try and understand why the store was laid out as it was. Thinking back to all my previous grocery shopping trips I would go into a store with a few items in mind and come out with basket full of “good deals.” My first impression was at the volume of promotional material. The promotional material was not just for new and well known products. It became obvious to me how many adverts where for the Albertsons store itself. I was constantly being reminded about what store I had already chose to shop in. This interested me, why was I constantly being reminded where I was, and then I realized that it must have been part of Albertsons Self-promotion strategy. Every good offer and brand on promotional sale had the Albertsons logo attached, a constant subconscious association between the well-known brands, good value and Albertsons stores. Advertising was the main mode of promotion that I found in the store. This is because advertising in store is a cheap and effective way to communicate messages to the largest number of people in the store. I also noticed some sales promotion on the vegetable aisle, there was a popular manufacture of cookware in the store with a display booth. This display was promoting the cookware manufacture, as well as Albertsons, and their new relationship with the cookware manufacturer. The atmosphere itself varies from place to place in the store; this is a deliberate tactic to make the customer feel something. The vegetable section of the store is meant to look and feel like a green grocers or farmers market. I am sure this is to enforce the idea that the products found there are fresh produce and give the impression that it is local. The food on offer is not
