Tule fog is a very thick fog that collects in parts of California during the rainy season of the late fall and winter. It has also been known to gather from Bakersfield to chico and occasionally in San Francisco. Tule fog is a type of radiation fog that is created due to the rising of warm air. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-tule-fog.htm The cold mountain air descends into the San Joaquin Valley and usually forms Tule fog on the first or second clear night after it has rained, skies are cleared and winds are light. This happens when high-pressure returns, creating an inversion with colder air near the earth's surface than aloft.
The associated air masses of storms within the British Isles are Polar maritime and Tropical maritime. As these two bodies of air move towards each other the warmer, less dense air from the south rises above the colder, dense air from the north. Circulations of low pressure then develop at points where the air is rising vigorously, this then coincides with waves in the polar front and jet stream. As a consequence there is much unsettled weather including heavy rain, strong winds and a variety of stormy cumulus clouds form; all of which can have devastating impacts socio-economically for an area as well as on the environment. The storm of 1987 occurred on the 15th and 16th of October due to a depression forming within the Bay of Biscay and had disastrous effects on the south and south-east of the UK.
The position of the UK makes storm events an inevitable part of our climate. Located at latitude of 52 to 56 degrees north of the equator, low-pressure systems frequently dominate our weather as cold air from the poles meet warm moist air from the equator. In total, five different air masses compete for control of our weather creating turbulent and unstable air that results in storms. A storm can be defined as ‘a rainfall and wind event that produces more than 0.1 inches of precipitation and which is separated from the previous storm event by at least 72 hours of dry weather’. This essay will firstly discuss the extent to which the impacts of storms in the UK, such as ‘The Great Storm’ of October 1987 in Southern England and the recent St Jude’s storm in October 2013, are the result of physical and human influences, and then evaluate the effectiveness the responses to these storms.
Due to the different ethnicities, many immigrants found the transition to American life quite difficult, despite their efforts to ease the transition by assimilation into U.S. society. (Schultz, 2014) The repaid expansion of American cities caused the appearance of tenements, something never before seen. The tenements were narrow four to five-story buildings with few windows, limited plumbing and electricity. (Schultz, 2014) The tenements nurtured disease, high infant mortality, and horrendous issues with pollution, and were often the site of racial and ethnic
As noted by Inkpen (2013), the fires and other tragic events since 2006 can be directly linked to ineffective laws, political corruption, aggressive market competition and lack of ethical business practices, CASE STUDY: BANGLADESH GARMENT FACTORY FIRE Analysis 3 From a national or local perspective, companies routinely deal with the social, ethical and political risks associated with doing business. However, those same risks take on a different context when doing business
There are people to blame for my cities downfall. Due to all the stealing that was going on in council has caused a large deficit. In recent years this has been the cause of the depressing state my city is in. its ruined state of minds so bad to the point we don’t believe in ourselves as much. Also the lack of teacher & student relations has even ruined my generation we feel as though there’s no one to fight for us.
When you hear about a collation and a car and truck where involved and you see pictures the car is in really bad condition and the truck only has a minor problem. I feel a lot safer in a truck because it’s also a lot bigger than a car. A car rides low and on a freeway you never know what can happen. Diesel drivers are a lot crazier than ever now days. They don’t care, All they want to do is get there load from point A to point B.
The primary effected area would be the damage of infrastructure, loss of power, fires and other potentially catastrophic hazards. Much of San Diego is located in low lying valleys and in a densely populated central business district, because of the strong concentration of people damage and loss of life from collapsed infrastructure and debris would be great. According to (Guzzetti& Carrara 1993 ) It is the location to human population that is key distinguishing feature of population risk .Furthermore much of the secondary effects like the loss/damage to property can be severe, according to (californiagreensolutions.com) in the past 26 years an accumulated amount of 19.43 billion dollars of damage has been attributed to catastrophes, and 19.43 billion has been related to earthquake damage. Conclusion Through my findings and research I have found that the two most common natural disasters that San Diego and its outlying areas are susceptible to are wildfires and earthquakes. Although the frequencies for earthquakes are relatively low the possible of catastrophic damage from one is a major possibility during the next 20 years.
I feel that prohibition was unnecessary and did more bad than good. Prohibition actually increased the amount of alcohol in some places. It also led to more substance related deaths. Another downside to prohibition was that law enforcement officers became so worried about alcohol consumption that much unneeded time and money was spent on the issue. Since the officers were focusing mainly on the alcohol issue the crime rate increased.
A county that have most fracking is now more polluted than Los Angeles. Doctors also said because of fracking the cancer rate in people is increasing. People can’t be treated because the substances used in fracking are unknown. One the biggest losses are the substances used for fracking are kept unknown from people and even from workers working in these factories. Because they are hazardous.
