Introduction: I have read the article “Aim low to find meaning at work” by Lucy Kellaway. The article is about people who complain that they can’t find a meaning with their jobs. The money may be good but where is the meaning? How can they make a difference? As an example I took Lucy Kellaways friend who works for a company, which sells dog food. She was going to go mad if she didn’t do something worthwhile at her work soon. So therefore she came up with a charity for her company to sponsor in Africa, and suddenly she claimed that the meaning was back in her job. In Lucy’s opinion this is a paradox. One thing is to be a good employee and do the job as you’re expected to do, and another thing is to be a sponsor, which normally is a political company decision of the CEO. One of the main reasons why people are searching for a meaning at their work could be because they obviously think that they are paid too well. Furthermore she refers to her communication with a lot of different people, who all have this in common, that they all feel a lack of making a difference in their jobs. The reason to this attitude is because the people have been living in a welfare society where they are paid very well. And therefore they expect themselves to do something extraordinary in order to receive their salary. So perhaps it’s more question about having a clean conscience than finding meaning at work. I assume, that this environment refers to the middle-class people, who I think are paid
