Advantages of e-Commerce Introduction Developing an e-commerce business encompasses many different components. Building an e-commerce business is similar to a brick and mortar business in many aspects. To better evaluate this, you must look the placement of the website, merchandise and audience, the presentation, payment and security, fulfillment, the four infrastructures of e-commerce, values and proposition, online offerings, and resource systems. Placement When considering the web development, placement is just as important within e-commerce as it is in a brick and mortar business. From the e-commerce standpoint, placement is important because it tracks the flow of consumers to the website. Rayport and Jaworski (2004) states “So while the physical location of an online business’s headquarters (see the hosting discussion in Chapter 10) is of little concern to the consumer, it is important that the website is highly visible and easily found. Placement of links to the website is an important determinant of traffic for an e-commerce store” (p.46). The website must be easily accessible for all consumers in order for the site to receive the flow that is needed to succeed. E-commerce businesses must make sure that they are reaching their target consumers and this all falls back to the idea that it must be accessible to all. For example, companies can link their websites to other websites which the target market frequents to gain more notoriety. The whole idea behind placement is to make the website stand out from the other sites. The more notoriety the sites receives the better chance they have at gaining the competitive advantage.
