International trade has flourished over the years due to the many benefits it has offered to different countries across the globe. International trade is the exchange of services, goods, and capital among various countries and regions, without much hindrance. The international trade accounts for a good part of a country’s gross domestic product. It is also one of important sources of revenue for a developing country. The rise in the international trade is essential for the growth of globalization. Foreign trade helps every country to make optimum use of its natural resources. Each country can concentrate on production of those goods, for which its resources are best suited. Wastage of resources is avoided in this way and people in general get a feeling that their government is concerned about them, their resources and their money. Therefore quality goods will be produced and more money can be obtained since the good can be sold at a more expensive price. Foreign trade leads to specialization and encourages production of different goods in different countries. Goods can be produced at comparatively low cost due to advantages of division of labour. Due to foreign trade, goods are produced not only for home consumption but for export to other countries also. Nations of the world, in this way, can dispose of those goods in the foreign market that they have in surplus. Greater variety of goods available for consumption – international trade brings in different varieties of a particular product from different destinations. This gives consumers a wider a variety of choices which will not only improve their quality of life but as a whole it will help the country grow. Promotes efficiency in production as countries will try to adopt better methods of production to keep costs down in order to remain competitive.
