Achieving my Goals Setting goals and accomplishing goals to me make me feels really good as if I just won a gold medal at a track meet. It is always good to set goals for yourself because when you set goals for yourself you are challenging yourself to strive and seek something higher of yourself. In my English course I have goals that I want to accomplish this semester in this class. Achieving my goals for this course will not be easy. There are steps that I must take in order for me to accomplish them, otherwise it would be impossible. First, I would like to learn how to engage my audience and making sure that my writing is appropriate for my audience. In order for me to do this I will have to first make sure I know what I am talking about and the way I use my words must be fascinating to my audience. Choosing the right audience is important as well as catching the reader’s attention. Having a thesis statement is probably the most important thing you could have in your writing. You are giving the reader almost a pre-summary of what you are going to be talking about. This gives the reader a heads up on if they want to continue reading the rest of your writing, so it is important that you make sure your thesis statement is good and has everything in there that you are going to cover. Thesis statements for me are challenging and somewhat difficult. I would like for this English course to make it easy for me to follow these steps in order to create a great thesis statement. Second, I would like to learn to stay on topic. Sometimes when I start writing my mind just goes everywhere and it is hard for me to stay on one specific topic. In order for me to be able to actually stay on topic I must take my time and look very closely to what the prompt is asking for.
