The main argument against increasing the wages of these workers is that it will have a negative impact on the developing world because workers will lose their jobs. He refutes this argument by stating that companies, rather than anti-sweatshop protestors, make the decision to shift the locations of their factories. He concludes by appealing to college students to pressure universities to purchase products in factories that are respectful of workers’ rights. He provides information about student unions that support this cause. Although he states many arguments about working conditions he provides very little evidence to support these arguments.
His first example of logos is that if people did their job and only their job things would go a lot better, he also states that a person should not confuse their academic obligations with their personal beliefs. This statement makes a lot of sense because a person that is doing their job and only their job will do what the job has them to do and not what they believe they should do. He continues in the paragraph academics should interpret the world not try to change it. Another example of logos in this paragraph is when it comes to people that are academics on voting like “curriculum, department leadership, the direction of research, the content and manner of teaching” (p.175). This is building on to what he said earlier about doing your job and your job only, if you vote on stuff that deal with you will see stuff to start to get better.
This is not persuasive because one of those reasons are from the research I have done for my own career field (video editor); you need a secondary education in this field and it needs to be related to a film school diploma. Wooldridge says it’s a waste of time getting a higher education but in reality you will not get a job without one. One of the reasons why you wont get a job is because if a company were too see you with no qualifications like a BA or Ph’D and another person came with the required qualifications. They will most likely hire the other person; just for one reason because his education
With reference to this, if students shy away from attaining greater dreams and goals and argue that they are not bright enough, then that is only an excuse. As the president of the university declares, there is no such thing as smartness; it is simply how much people try to get what they need and desire since lethargy and the thought that someone is smart will not take them anywhere (TED, 2013). The four pillars of success, he confirmed, were forming community amongst the students, high expectations, using researchers to create researchers and educational faculty getting concerned with their students’ affairs (TED, 2013). The high expectations create a feeling of curiosity
Definition I believe people have different opinions of defining the term academic honesty. However, it has the same purpose, which is being truthful in all that you do and say whether in the classroom, home, or any organization that you are a member of. In other words, it means personal integrity. Honesty or integrity is the backbone of knowledge, teaching, and service. According to The Center of Academic Integrity of Duke University, “academic integrity [is] a commitment, even in the face of adversity, to five fundamental values: honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility” (Duke University, 1999, p.8) I would like to focus my discussion on the four values: honesty, trust, fairness, and respect.
With that freedom, however, comes the responsibility to uphold the high ethical standards of academic conduct. American University's Academic Integrity Code sets forth standards of academic conduct, defines academic violations, and outlines the adjudication process for academic offenses. The Center for Academic Integrity defines academic integrity as "a commitment, even in the face of adversity, to five fundamental values : honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility." Academic excellence fundamentally depends upon these values. Every participant in a community of inquiry has the obligation to support practices that promote academic integrity, prevent dishonesty, and punish offenses when they occur.A sound education is built through many laboring minds doing honest intellectual work, but its enduring value depends upon the integrity of its construction. By analogy, the structure of our home is as solid as the integrity of the builder's work.
Personal responsibility, as it relates to academics is the taking charge of one’s own learning. Personal responsibility recognizes the importance of completing assignments on time, studying for tests, and performing to the best of one’s ability. I accept responsibility for my own education and I am an active participant. Having a positive sense of responsibility will increase my chance of academic success. The most important ways to improve academic success is to focus on improving the areas of my personal responsibility.
Everyone wants an edge on their college applications; however, the color of your skin should not be considered an advantage or disadvantage for students applying. Colleges are battlegrounds for numerous morals, academic and political beliefs. The college admissions committee should not add another weapon to their campuses by using race as a determining factor in the admission of students. Their acceptance should be based on hard work, determination, and the knowledge and skills gained in school leading up to college admissions. These factors, proven by transcripts, standardized test scores, and a resume will lead to a well-prepared incoming freshmen class that will excel at their respective universities.
She will say something along the lines of "To get a god job, you need a degree; and these subjects will help you to get a degree. We never had these chances when I was young." “Real education is the one which enables you to think for yourself and apply what you have learned. Purely knowing facts and being able to effectively remember and recall them isn't being educated. To be educated is being able to make your own decisions and form your own opinions about things.
I have to give the hiring employees something that will spark an interest in me and what I have to offer their company. I cannot, in any way, give them the opportunity to stereotype me based on what they see. I have to let my educational status speak for me, which means I’d have to master obtaining a certificate or degree in my chosen field of work. The economy is at an all-time decrease, and in order for me to support myself and my future family, I must have a higher education. Having a higher education will allow me to qualify for a high paying job with benefits.
