Abuse, Drug Use, and Suicide
Signs of Abuse
Frequent injuries, unexplained bruises
Hygiene is consistently bad
Trouble walking or sitting
If there is a pregnancy, or STD, especially if the child under 14
Signs of Drug Use
Glassy eyes, Red eyes
Signs of Suicidal tendencies
A sudden interest in death
Depressed or anxious mood
Withdrawal from friends
Threats to harm or kill themselves
Sometimes when a child is being abused, using drugs, or become suicidal, the child is to afraid or to lost and depressed to go to an adult and let them know that something is happening to them and they do not know what to do. And sometimes the child may be so far gone in what is happening to them that they shut down and do not want to talk about it at all because they do know how to tell you that they are being hurt, or they feel that they could hurt themselves. Sometimes the signs are as clear as day and sometimes they are not. You have to look for signs that a student is in distress for any reason at all, whether they are being abused sexually, physically or if they are being neglected, using drugs and so depressed to the point they want to take their own lives.
If I was to have a student in my class that show signs of abuse, they are using drugs, or they show suicidal tendencies than the first thing I would do is to report it to my principle. Especially if the child was showing any type of abuse because I would not know who was abusing the child at home, school or any where else. Then I would talk to the child with my principle to see what is going on with the child and find out if there was any way we could get that child of that surrounding quick before the child is hurt anymore.
