Abortion is the act of terminating a pregnancy by expelling the fetus or the embryo from the uterus. This results in the death of the fetus or may be caused by the death of the fetus. The former case is usually termed as an induced or elective abortion whereas the latter, a spontaneous one. An induced abortion is what is commonly referred to as an abortion and a spontaneous one is called a miscarriage. Sometimes an abortion may be induced for a good cause. In that case, the abortion falls into the category of a therapeutic abortion. Pros and cons of abortion are the following. (Services) Pros of Abortion: Abortion can be performed under various instances. The pros of a therapeutic abortion are quite a few. It can be the only means of saving the life of a pregnant female in case of complications in the pregnancy. (Services) Apart from that, abortion is the best way out when the fetus is detected with a congenital disease at an early stage. This saves a life of misery and inconvenience for both the child and the parents. Sometimes abortion may be the only option left to restore the health of the pregnant female. In case of multiple pregnancies, this is a way to reduce the number of fetuses so that the fetus that survives is healthy and is not deprived of resources.
