Darian Barrera 11-1-12 Abortion Negative Constructive I strongly disagree that abortion be legal in all of the states in the US. Abortion appears to most as a crime. After all, abortion is just saying that someone with a well-deserving life should just be killed just because they are not wanted. Since the odds are not in our favor, can we deprive someone the chance to live? Having an abortion done always carries the risk of not being able to become pregnant ever again in life. Abortion can also lead to serious health complications, and in some cases, death. Abortion allows a woman to put an end to their pregnancies, but involves killing the undeveloped embryo or fetus. This procedure goes against the doctor’s Hippocrates oath, in which states "I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion." In the first trimester, several types of abortion can be used. One type is Mifepristone and Misoprosto, a medical abortion procedure used up to the first seven to nine weeks of pregnancy. It can also be referred to as RU-486, the abortion pill and Mifeprex. From RU-486facts.org, “Eight deaths have occurred in recent years related to RU-486 abortions: 4 in California, 1 in Canada, 2 in the United Kingdom and 1 in Sweden. In addition, a Tennessee woman died from a ruptured ectopic pregnancy after undergoing an RU-486 abortion.” In addition, At least one woman in France died while others there suffered life-threatening heart attacks from the technique. In U.S. trials conducted in 1995, one woman was known to have nearly died after losing half her blood and requiring emergency surgery. Furthermore, “On November 15, 2004, the FDA reported having received 676 "adverse event" reports concerning RU-486 abortions, including 17 ectopic pregnancies, 72 cases where
