Why There Would Be No People Without Plants Why There Would Be No People Without Plants Plants are the most important natural resources. Humans and other animals depend on plants to convert the energy of sunlight to the chemical energy of sugars and other organic molecules we consume as food (Simon, 2010, pg 92). This is done through photosynthesis. Plants have different uses that are valuable to us, like cotton for our clothes, lumbar for the houses we live in, and for paper like the newspaper and the paper we write on. Animals depend on plants as well, for their shelter and food. Plants or organisms that make their own carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Plants oils come from lipids or unsaturated fats such as cooking oils and coconut oil. If there would be no plants people would not be able to breath, because plants take energy from the sun, carbon dioxide from the air, water and minerals from the soil then they give off water and oxygen. Plants are great for food for us and animals. Most of our foods come from 100 or so domesticated species of flowering plants. Among these foods are roots, such as beets and carrots; the fruits of trees and vines, such as apples, nuts, berries, and squashes; the fruits and seeds of legumes, such as peas, peanuts, and beans; and the fruits of grasses, which are grains such as wheat, rice, and corn. (Simon, 2010, pg 606). Plants are used directly, because of the foods we eat, and they are used indirectly, because of the animals that we eat that get their nourishments from plants. Other ways plants are valuable to use is the houses that we all live in that are made from lumbar. Some people that live in these houses do not have electricity so they will use the fuel source from plants like charcoal and wood. Without this source people would perish.
