The Best and Worst of Americas Presidents Throughout U.S history there have been many good presidents and also many bad presidents. I believe that presidents should be graded on how they handle the economy, foreign policy, and equal rights. From our first president to our current president those I believe are the three most important grading points. A good economy is very important because it gives people a better living by giving them job opportunities and a way for people to make money. Foreign policy is important because it has a lot to do with the trade, technology, and communications of the United States.
Key Problem in the Port Huron Statement The Port Huron Statement was a written declaration by an American student activist movement called the Students for a Democratic Society, SDS. The key problem found within the Port Huron Statement addresses the dissatisfaction and disillusionment many young people were feeling in the 1960s and also that there was a big gap in the society, or in America, on what life should be and what it actually was. “The United States was the wealthiest and the strongest country in the world; the only one with the atom bomb, the least scarred by modern war, an initiator of the United Nations that we thought would distribute Western influence throughout the world. Freedom and equality for each individual, government of, by, and for the people- there American values we found good, principles by which we could live as men” (Albert 176). This was not at all how the sixties really played out though.
The failure of foreign policy in the years 1514-1525 can be attributed to many things. The combination of Henry's isolation from European affairs and the fact that his attempts to raise tax were ultimately unpopular failures, meant that he had no way to impose himself upon Europe. Even when he did manage to scrape together the finances needed for a strong foreign policy his reliance on his allies led to disaster. As soon as Henry took the throne in 1509, it was obvious that he was a king that wanted to fight a war. However, wars generally led to very expensive costs to the country.
Kederis !1 Robert Kederis Mr. Batson AP US History 12 August 2013 Analysis of the book “The Disuniting of America” ! In his book, The Disuniting of America: Reflections on a Multicultural Society, the author, Pulitzer Prize winning historian Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. asserts that our world has entered what he calls a "dangerous era of ethnic and racial animosity". He portends that this renewed multiculturalism in the United States has the potential to tear apart our nation. He further submits that America, with its unique history of successful assimilation of so many cultures into one united body, should provide the example for the rest of the world as to how to hold ethnically diverse populations together. Mr. Schlesinger believes that "ethnicity
A People’s History of the United States: Reflection Chapter 21 Carter-Reagan-Bush: The Bipartisan Consensus This chapter summarizes a period in American history in which there was a deepening economic insecurity for much of the population, along with “environmental deterioration, and a growing culture of violence and family disarray,” (Zinn 563). What was needed during this time was, according to Zinn, a bold change in the social and economic structure. However, no major party candidates brought forth such changes. The supercharged energy of politics was coursing throughout the nation, yet a majority of voters felt disconnected and lackluster. The presidency of Jimmy Carter (1977-1980) attempted to “recapture a disillusioned citizenry” but was held back by Carter’s conformity to the political boundaries of the American system.
Source eight describes how exactly Peter went about building his new capital which was St Petersburg. The conditions of working were terrible. The brutally hard working conditions along with scurvy ,dysentry and malaria killed around 25000 people and so this was a big failure of Peter as this was all for his own selfish needs. To sum up i do not think that Peter deserves the title of Peter the Great because of all these failures listed above :He taxed heavily , was very violent ,has been described as barbaric, failed in many war like actions ,didn’t solely change Russia it was down to other people he just took glory ,he destroyed relationships between Church and state and lastly he killed many workers just to make a new capital
The treaty of Versailles greatly humiliated Germany forcing it to accept soul responsibility for the war. Another fault in this treaty was that it did not work as intended. The idea that Germany could ever afford to pay the reparations to full amount was ludicrous as it was already suffering from the defeat of war. These reparations caused runaway inflation throughout Germany. But perhaps the biggest problem of all was that those who created it themselves did not enforce
In my opinion Operation Rolling Thunder (ORT) was a massive failure. As the US did not meet its official aims and objectives of stopping the spread of communism to Vietnam. It caused a lot of inexperienced soldiers to lose their lives. Also having a major effect on America its self as the country battled to juggle money to afford the cost of the war. But one of the hardest battle’s for the US was to keep their own countries support.
President George Washington shaped and built the foundation upon which the pillars of America stand. He came into office when the country was in heavy debt and the treasury empty but he used the awesome wisdom God gave him and revive the economy. This nation required a strong, dignified administration to guide a highly emotional population at that time and President Washington stepped up to the plate. He created a charter to govern the nation that became the blue print for the country. His administration maintained peace and neutrality in the face of European Affairs.
Monogamy is discouraged by the utopian society and considered improper “Four months of Henry Foster, without having another man…why, he’d be furious if he knew…” This restrains people from getting too emotionally involved and putting their loved one’s needs before the society’s needs. All this is to prevent strong emotion, inspired by family relationships, sexual repression, and delayed satisfaction of desire, which goes directly against stability. The controller’s explanation for how the World State has come in place is that there were a time before the existence of the World State, the instability caused by strong emotions led to disease, war, and social unrest that resulted in millions of deaths and untold suffering and
