Amartya Sen's Review: Divided We Fall, United We Stand

“Divided we fall, united we stand” it means a lot in todays era where politicians, scholars, cultural experts are busy in creating cultural diversities. Amartya Sen in his essay in New York times on November 23, 2001 is discussing the same idea. According to Sen the system of cultural division is problematic as cultural and civilization are not the only point in focus for separation. World civilizations are like a deep woven net whose separation is not possible. He gives example of cultural diversity of India and its emperors Akbar and Aurangzeb. Dividing civilization force humans to think as divided because of our religion and politics. This can be only stopped when people unite together through their ideas leaving behind their cultural differences.…show more content…
Democracy is what governs the modern era. A democratic republic is run by a government which is elected to govern the country by its citizens but the governments successfully do their work is a matter of willingness to work selflessly for others. The government that Abraham Lincoln formed worked endlessly towards the betterment of United states the results can be seen now United states , today is one of the largest economy of the world. The governments in Canada, Australia and other developed nations worked endlessly towards the betterment of their own motherland and succeeded. The selfish governments dogged by tyranny, hate, racism, castism like in India have never been able to achieve what they had promised. The politicians in these countries worked for the betterment of their own families wealth and not country’s wealth and as a result of this even after 60 years of independence India has not been able to become a fully developed country. Poverty still persists in India, people still die due to hunger, inflation is creating prices of daily commodities to increase like anything. There are many other countries suffering from a similar situation Pakistan , Sri lanka, Nepal ,Bhutan and other asian countries are suffering the wrath of greed of their fellow politicians. AS long as the nations of the world compete amongst each other for limited resources periodic global conflicts are inevitable until then the political tensions among the countries wont be resolved and establishment of world peace will suffer. World politics and politicians are the real enemies that are always going to hinder the establishment of peace among
