This paper was written 12 years ago and was the first essay I ever wrote, be kind when critiquing: ) ‘A woman’s place is not just in the home’ This essay will argue that a woman’s place is not just in the home. This is because women are no longer accepting society’s established patterns of thought about their place. By exploring these three areas, culture, economics and technology, I will show why ‘a woman’s place is not just in the home’. Historically women were expected to stay at home and look after family, whether that be parents or her husband and their children. However, changes in attitudes occurred through two World Wars, Feminism and the advancement of Technology. Women are no longer restricted to traditional roles and they can choose what they want to do. This essay will now discuss how Western Culture’s opinions and beliefs regarding a ‘woman’s place’ have changed. During the ‘World Wars’, women took on multiple roles to keep the country’s economy afloat. They worked in paid employment as well as, within their homes. After the war women realised they had many choices and “Feminist’s’ fought for equality and women have now gained more rights. Family structure and values have changed and through effective methods of contraception, family sizes have become smaller. Women can remain single or marry and remain childless or combine marriage, children, and a career. Many women join the workforce for the ‘mental stimulation that home duties can’t provide’, as well as for the economic reasons. This essay will now demonstrate why ‘a woman’s place is not just in the home’, by discussing a woman’s attributes to the economy by working in paid employment. When a woman works outside the home and earns an income, she not only increases the household’s standard of living, but also creates employment opportunities for others, for example ‘child
