With this frame of mind, they lack the motivation to do better and succeed. ), Collectivism (The w/c value being part of a group. This may hold them back as they will take the group’s decision on something, which may be to not attend school, not revise etc. ), Immediate gratification vs. deferred gratification (The w/c believe in IG where they want the reward straight away. This can affect their education as they will not want to stay on in further education, as they can get a job and make money straight away.
The main ideas of “Talent is Overrated” is to help people have better look of talent and get to know and learn about deliberate practice. People who looking for this book are usually people who educated or people who seeking for success and finding way to practice rightly. In beginning of the book, Colvin said: “Many people not only fail to become outstandingly good at what they do, no matter how many years they spend doing it, they frequently don’t even get any better than they were when they started.” (3). After years of trained, yet these people still stuck in their current level and they need to find new ways to change it. “Talent is Overrated” is the best answer for them.
One other reason why people don’t change is because changing takes a bundle of effort and time which is two variables that most of us don’t have right now. We are all too busy and too lazy to change our way of life. Another way to look at it is our life is like the cycle of life. The cycle of life is set in its ways and everything happens in order and the ways it is suppose to happen. Someone or ourselves just can’t walk up and change the cycle of life unless you are motivated and have the energy to put into this extreme change.
Like any employer from for profit organizations, nonprofit organizations also require candidates with skills and ability to do the job well. However, they also look for candidates who are really interested in their organization in terms of the issue they are working on. Nonprofit organization often needs employee who is really care about what they are doing and expects their employees to put in extra hours, working during weekends, or make do with limited resources [ (Green 2010) ]. On the other hand, if the new employee does have passion for the issue of the nonprofit organization but he/she is lack of the skills to do the job well, he/she would probably expect a pay
The world is changing rapidly and many people are tired of being at the same job for a long time. Some people that want to change their jobs find many obstacles. For example, better jobs require education beyond high school. A Bachelor's degree is a requirement for many jobs, and also other jobs require specialized skills, knowledge and practical training that only a college degree and program can provide. A college degree often puts a person in a better position and demonstrates that he or she has the discipline to finish a task.
I know that things are obviously harder now days for people. Jobs are being outsourced or given away to undocumented workers who work under the table for less but this article really had me thinking. I am the type of person that is willing to relocate anywhere I believe I can make it. So it had me thinking if this is people not knowing about other options or not knowing how to survive unless the script had already been written. It seems we are
In the past, one could support their family without a college education and still have the means to live comfortably. However that is not the case anymore. In today’s society all of the high paying jobs require and demand college experience. These jobs that are at the high paying end of the spectrum have changed their basic requirements because of technology rapidly increasing day by day, getting more complicated and difficult-which makes them want to make sure that their employees are properly trained. This however, does not sit well with people who are becoming unemployed or who have seniority at their current jobs.
Everything that came up under “Challenges” was true for me. The challenges that related to me most were having difficulty managing time and losing interest in long, complex projects. However, the suggested strategies for these challenges are actually very helpful and I will definitely be using these suggestions from now on in both my short and long-term career goals. I learned that I am a Thinker rather than a Feeler – meaning I base my decisions on logic versus values. I have always thought I was more likely to use my feelings to make decisions rather than what my head tells me – but this assessment says otherwise.
Also, students need to drastically lower their expectations when it comes to finding a job, “a lot of students want that perfect needle-in-the-haystack job but with this economy that’s just not possible.” (SF Chronicle). The economy is in very poor shape and to expect a job that will instantly provide them with more than substantial pay is not practical. Young individuals will have to get used to the idea that they have less options coming out of university, and that having a degree does not guarantee them decent-paying
Jobs will always be hard to get especially when so many of us apply for them we must push for a higher education that way when it comes down to picking an individual you know you are better than the rest of the others who applied. We must learn new languages to be able to better communicate with people who are not from this country jobs now days will pay more if you know several different languages. We may not find a solution to this problem in the near future and none of really know what the right answer is but trying to get rid of
