Abstract: This paper attempts to briefly analyze the development of the present English reading teaching patterns in Senior Middle School, discuss how to carry on the Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) in English reading class in Senior Middle School by talking about the features, significances, designing principles and the basic procedure of TBLT. And it ends up with an evaluation and reflection of TBLT after presenting the actual application of this teaching pattern in senior English reading class. Key Words: Reading; Task-based Language Teaching 1. Introduction For the need of social development, the fluent communication with more and more foreign friends and the latest trends of the development of the world science and technology, students must possess an excellent language reading ability. Therefore, reading is a valuable basic technique. However, the traditional reading classes are always found boring and dull. How to motivate students’ inner requirement and create a high quality teaching circumstance in the class? And how to develop students’ reading ability fully while at the same time cultivating their language and thinking abilities, which are often discussed by the faculties. Which teaching pattern is the best one? The New National English Curricular Syllabus recommends the use of the TBLT approach in classroom teaching. It emphasizes that teacher is no longer the center in the classroom teaching. The teaching pattern that the knowledge is only imparted from textbook should be replaced by TBLT. Before the use of TBLT in English reading class there are some other teaching patterns. 2. Development of the Present English Reading Teaching Patterns in Senior Middle School There are several English reading teaching patterns nowadays. However, some of them are not perfect.
