A Speech on the Role of Education to the Filipino Youth BY: A Concerned Person “The youth are the hope of our motherland,” Dr. Jose Rizal once said. But where are the youth today? Some are in jail; others are in the rehabilitation centers; more are in the streets, begging for alms, high with drugs and solvent, collecting garbage, snatchers, drug pushers and the like, hooked with the internet, bystanders-doing nothing or doing senseless things, and only a few are in schools. What’s happening with our Filipino youth today? Who’s to be blamed for these? We cannot deny the fact that we are living in a third world country wherein our economy is not stable, there are a lot of unemployed, the population is increasing, territorial disputes are alarming, worse we are name as one who has the most corrupt government officials in the world. What a shame! What a name we have in the international scene! Do we still want to live in such a country like this? Is there still hope for a better Philippines? Yes! There is still hope for a better Philippines! Education is the answer! As they say, “Education is the key to success.” Let’s educate every Filipino! Let’s educate the youth and change the face of our country into a land of the rising sun bringing into the limelight once again, the Philippines, the Pearl of the Orient Seas! Yes, we can! We can transform like a butterfly! Though we sleep for a long time in our cocoon, living in such a miserable condition, suffering for a long time, we can come out, overcome such a degraded situation and be like a beautiful butterfly, free, flying and soaring high! Let us start with our youth today! Let’s educate them! Education will free us from the bondage of poverty! Education will make us fly soar high as high as the sky.
