Alix Bambrough 305 Task Bi: A Reflective Account of a Person Centered Approach In my work place we operate a person centered approach towards our service users. We understand that this way can help to ensure the individual is receiving the best care centered towards them and their needs. We have a gentleman (Mr. X) who is quite prone to short outbursts of agitated and aggressive behaviour. Mr. X suffers from depression and the early stages of dementia, which affects his short term memory loss immensely, he is also a diabetic. Handled correctly the majority of the time the outbursts can be contained quickly without escalating into an incident. When Mr. X has an outburst that staff are unable to contain it can become quite a serious risk for him and others around him. He can become aggressive very quickly. There have been times when they have escalated into physical altercations. When he is in these states he will lash out at other service users as well as members of staff. This is dangerous for him not only for the obvious physical risks but it can also put his health into jeopardy. Due to his personal centered plan we have in place staff are aware of these outbursts and how to handle them. The plan explains things that might cause Mr. X to become agitated, like not being able to find his razor. Staff know to offer to go help look for it in his room where it is usually found in the top drawer or next door in the bathroom. But because he isn’t able to see it laying on a surface top he assumes it has been taken, sometimes he will blame service users other times members of staff. There are times when instead of coming to staff Mr. X will voice to another service user that he can’t find his razor, which would start a conversation that might cause Mr. X to be come more agitated than is necessary over the whole situation.
