I am an artist, but in my eyes, God is the greatest artist and the world is His canvas. When I see something breathtaking or unique like powerful sun-rays bursting behind a plume of clouds, or a mother duck sunning with her ducklings on a drifted log alongside a riverbed, I view it as a special gift. This to me is evidence of a little bit of Heaven on earth. The glory would fall short of what I truly experienced if I tried to describe the feeling it gave me when I saw it. The ancient proverb “A picture is worth a thousand words”, is a perfect way say it. A photo is a perfect way to share a moment and keep it alive. A hobby that far exceeds all others to me is photography because it is rewarding in so many ways. It is not just a professional career or for the truly gifted anymore. It is a tool that provides an opportunity to capture, preserve, and share moments in time. Anyone should consider photography as a hobby because it is affordable, easy, and rewarding. First, photography is easy in this digital era. With basic knowledge camera operation and a computer, photography can be a rewarding experience as a hobby. Simple point and shoot cameras come with free, easy online software for photo editing, special effects, and photo storage applications. Newer computers have drag and drop capabilities that make any photo project a snap! There are online programs where I create digital scrapbooks and meaningful or professional slide shows with ease. I post them online, print them out, or burn them to a DVD. I documented the growth and progress of a non-profit company in a slide-show with before, during and after shots of their Open House event. Another slide-show filled with photos of services and ceremonies held in our community by the American Legion Riders are currently displayed at conventions, trade-shows and on their Web site.
