In Bangladesh, the wells were poisoned making the water contaminated and dangerous to drink. These NGOs help increase water security by providing solutions to find clean water available and help sustain a water future for the locals. However, these organisations are quite minimal and limited, they do not have all the resources to help many and therefore unfortunately cannot help everyone as much as they would want to. Another

Hemp could be an easy more efficient and more environmentally friendly alternative to cotton. For hundreds of years hemp was used to make various commercial products like paper, rope, canvas and textiles. Many years ago hemp was unjustly banned. However, hemp has recently been rediscovered as a plant that has enormous environmental, economic, and commercial potential. The major problems with cotton are that the plantations require a lot of herbicides and pesticides, they use a lot fertilizer and they use up massive quantities of water.
The process to create the paper does not involve releasing harmful toxins like tree paper processing does. The largest benefit of using hemp as paper is the fact that hemp can harvest in just four months after being planted. Trees can take tens to hundreds of years to be ready for harvest. The fact that deforestation due to tree paper processing destroys the habitats for thousands of animals also must be taken into consideration and adds to the list of reasons why hemp needs to be grown in the U.S. In addition to the use of hemp as paper, an equally valuable and environmentally friendly use of hemp is as a source of
Conservation & Preservation SCI/275 Natalie Adams 9/9/2011 Shannon Bigham The two terms conservation and preservation are often confused by many. Most people believe that they have the same meaning, but in actuality they have very different meanings for example, conservation is the process of using our earth’s natural resources in a manner that will prevent depletion and during this process most natural resources such as trees, water, wildlife, and minerals are used to benefit society but are only managed so they are not consumed faster than they can be replaced and preservation is the process of maintaining the earth’s natural resources in its natural state, free of human destruction and during this process, the earth’s natural
As we saw in the video “Guns, Germs and Steel” with Professor Jared Diamond, we saw that the tribe’s lack of intelligence was not the case for developing more as a civilization. For example, we saw how the people of New Guinea lived. They used the resources they had around them in order to make food, clothing and weapons to help grow and succeed as a civilization. Not only this, but by having the children help at a young age made the tribe more successful in the way that everyone played a part in contributing to make their civilization stronger as a unit. Another reason that the civilizations might have not been successful could have been the weather and climate that they were to go through.
Due to the lack of filtration, families had been drinking water from the rivers that had later tested positive for cholera. (Cherry, 2010). The Foundation is currently working to restore the filtration plants. Following their goals of a sustainable community, Hope for Haiti also has a reforestation initiative. The goal is to replant the mountainsides, and to plant crops such as grapefruits, mangoes, cashews and coffee to name a few.
Deforestation is when trees and other vegetation is being removed converting the forest to another land use, this exposed the soil and often leads to erosion and loss of soil fertility. The valuable nutrients of the soil are being washed away by erosion. To prevent this, we need to stop cutting down trees to create so many buildings, business owners should try to find established dwellings to put their business on. Deforestation also poses a threat to the food chain. These three major causes of soil erosion can be prevented and it will benefit everyone as a whole by creating a sustainable society for our environment.
