Understand how duty of care contributes to safe practice Explain what it means to have a duty of care in own work role. All service users should be supported and enabled to live in an environment which is free from prejudice and safe from abuse. My responsibilities under the duty of care is to do everything reasonable within the definition of my job role to make this happen. A duty of care is a legal obligation imposed on a carer requiring that they adhere to a good quality and standard of care. It is my duty to take care of vulnerable adults and to ensure that their needs and well-being are looked after.

Everyone wants to be independent, confident, able, attractive, etc. If we make the residents feel comfortable, important and give them a proper care then it’s all linked with well-being. All the basic needs should be met in a certain way.
This is based around each individual and their careplan so the care i give is individual to them. I assist with personal hygiene, toileting and administer medication. As much as i enjoy assisting clients i always encourage them to be as independent as possible by letting them plan their day and making own choices. Also providing the clients with a welcoming and friendly environment will make all the difference to the person settling in. This provides stability for them and a sense of belonging.
It enables individual's to receive the care and support they need, in a person centred way and to be part of deciding the care that they will receive. Person centred care is good practice and helps to ensure that the correct and agreed care and support is given to each individual. No individual is the same and by having a person centred approach, it ensures that everyone is not treated the same, but in a way that respects their needs, wishes, preferences and values. Working to a person centred approach is essential in dementia care. It will help to maintain the individual's self-identity, self-respect and dignity.
6.3.3.1 Explain why it is important to work in partnership with others. It is vital for the individuals support team to work with others to achieve a person centred approach towards the care, support or needs of the service user, this allows for the information to be shared confidentially and in agreed ways, to achieve the best standard of care for each individual. Also so that others that come in to the home can read or be passed on accurate and up to date information, so that they can provide a consistent approach to each individual and their needs. This also demonstrates respect, mutual beneficial practices for the individuals. It also allows each employee to understand each others roles, and what purpose
1.2 The care contributes of safeguarding or protection of the people in my care is to protect them from sexual, physical or emotional harm by main ting a safe environment where they feel safe and able to talk to myself or staff about anything they feel is not right or concerns them or their families have about the care being proved. There is paper work in place to stop such thing as behaviour charts and working in pairs to be able to observer each in work. This helps to ensure against risk of allegation of misconduct or abuse. And to make sure that we preserve the respect and dignity of all that I care for by treating them the way I would like to be treated. People have choices and encouraging them to make informed choices gives confidence to make the right decisions for them. Showing understanding to a person within the service, ask questions, get involved, give positive responses, this also gives confidence and will encourage a person to feel assured about doing things for themselves which has a feel good factor. Unconditional Positive Regard: (UPR) this is a non-judgemental, Respecting and accepting the other person as they are, Rogers believed that for people to grow and fulfil their potential it is important that they are valued as themselves. The counsellor has a genuine regard for the client, they may not approve of some of the client’s actions, but the therapist does approve of the client. The therapist needs an attitude of “I’ll accept you as you are.” The therapist must always maintain a positive attitude to the client at all times.
