A Dependent Nation People in the 21st century have become overly-dependent on technology. Technology means more than just our cell phones, but rather anything that has to be plugged in and runs off of electricity. There are many different life factors that are dependent upon technology such as our own personal information banks and the way we use money, and most importantly, we depend on technology for medical reasons. Almost every American adult has a cell phone, tablet, or laptop that we use for personal and confidential information. We use them for many things such as writing papers,checking emails and communicating. Even teachers use technology in the classroom, to take attendance, post assignments on the Promethean board and much more. What would happen if the technology suddenly stopped working? We trust everything technological to just work, but many people have fallen victim to crashed computers, broken phones, lost files and lost pictures. Some people even trust phones as their alarm clocks in the morning. We depend on technology in many aspects of our everyday lives. Another huge aspect of everyday technology usage is how Americans spend and save money. Many workers opt to get direct deposit where their paychecks go directly into an account. Credit cards and debit cards are used more than dollar bills and coins. So how would people buy and sell goods if all technology failed if the magnetic credit card machines stopped working or the computers inside various banks and Tams crashed? No one really has a backup plan they just trust that all the technology will work and the rectangular plastic cards will get them what they need. The last example of how people are dependent on technology comes in the form of anything in the medical field. Form dentists to dermatologist they all depend on machines that run on power sources.
