A Day Without Technology

We can never ignore the power of nature. I feel wholesome every time I walk close to nature. It brings me more than fresh air and charming grass; it enables me a moment of joy, and makes me get in touch with my true self. As I decide to spend my day without technology, I am ready to be my own friend in nature. I sit down by the lake, hearing the sound of nature in the summer breeze. As a girl who regards solitude as a gift and wants to live more deliberately, I am sure that the day without technology will bring inner peace to my life. Unfortunately I ignore an essential truth that old habits die hard. I feel unequipped when I start the day without technology. When I say “unequipped,” I mean that I don’t seem able to bring my laptop, Wii U, or television with me today; nor can I reply to my friends on Facebook and unlock “candy crush” on my cell phone. I begin to feel wearisome and insecure after couple hours of solitude. What are other people doing? Is there anything interesting happening on Facebook? I’d say that I always had tangled feelings every time I was grabbing my phone before. Why do I say this? I was eager to know what was happening in the outside world; but when I truly started to browse every social network, my mind became aimless. On the one hand, some information can definitely provide me knowledge and widen my field of vision. On the other hand, some chaotic and messy information will confuse me, and drive me far away from nature. Suddenly I realize that where I am now is the actual “outside world”. Children are playing on the grass; couples are talking happily; some old guys are sitting still and thinking. Pictures ahead of my eyes are getting brighter and clearer. I can see every ripple on the surface of the lake and every drop on those green leaves. I am mesmerized by the fabulous sky view and sound of the wind. In this moment of being
