A bomb in celebrating foreign festivals Nowadays, more and more festivals have been added into our calendar. Apart from our traditional Chinese holidays, several foreign holidays have blended into our lives, such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Easter, New Year, April fool’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s and Father’s Day, etc. It’s because celebrating festivals is the easiest way to get to know other cultures. We all live under the impact of foreign culture. This was resulted from 3 major causes. First is the “global village”. Technology advance and Internet have promoted the cultural exchanges, which have formed a worldwide family and brought us closer together. Therefore, residents of the global village can have great influence on each other, and people will no longer be ignorant of the outside world. Second is “business opportunity”. Businessmen think celebrating exotic festivals is a brilliant opportunity to make money, so they keep introducing various kinds of novel festivals. Third is “English”. As the global official language, English spreads the culture behind its words. While we learn the language, we learn its culture background and festivals in the English world. In regards to the general population, there is an increase in popularity of celebrating foreign festivals. The major advocator, were the young generation, who have blind faith in foreign culture. They follow western life styles, and celebrate big foreign events. ….For teachers and parents, many festivals are meaningful and educational, which includes expressing gratitude to our elders and people who work on behalf of all of us. For children, it’s good to understand different culture and enjoy the happy atmosphere, like joining a costume party and putting up Christmas decorations.
