I attended an AA meeting and learned a lot. At first I thought it would be kind of pointless and was not happy that I would have to go. However after attending I found it to be very helpful and was happy I went and plan to keep going.
I learned that many of the people who were there never realized they were alcoholics until it was too late. They all just started as people like me who just drank as a social thing; it was just something to do with some friends. Eventually it became a regular thing and for different reasons. It was usually just to escape from problems they were having in life. There was one person whose husband died and she would go to the bar every night to try to forget what was going on. She said it would help her feel better for a while but as soon as she went home she realized that it still didn’t help. She said every time she got home she would just want to go back to the bar but would usually just start drinking at home. He said that when he has a rough day that’s the worst for him because it makes him want to drink alcohol that much more. He told me that when he started drinking he was 15 and he never really thought that alcoholism was a real problem. He thought it was just in peoples heads and that you could not really get a dependency on alcohol but by the time he realized it he was already an alcoholic.
The meeting I went...
