Gambling has been around for centuries in numerous civilizations. Most “around the table” gambling started with rolling dice and games emerged from that. Also games such as blackjack and poker came from art of Chinese paper shuffling (The History of Gambling). These games all went through many changes through out the years, to make gambling what it is today. Although gambling is fun, it does cause problems and always has. Dating back to 14th century soldiers were being preoccupied with gambling and not working on there drills and marksmanship. When King Henry VIII of England had noticed this weakness in his army, he outlawed gambling for the good of his army and safety of his nation, this was the first evidence of gambling ever being outlawed (The History of Gambling). Gambling has always posed problems for communities and always will because of the wide variety, and its addictive, entertaining nature.
When the word gambling comes to mind, most people think of slot machines and high stakes blackjack tables, but the truth is there are many forms of gambling that take place outside of the casinos. Gambling is defined as, “to stake something on a contingency (or) taking a chance” (Gambling). Considering that, when is the last time you gambled? Did you look at it as gambling? In respect to the definition, there are various different types that range from children betting if they can jump a puddle on the playground, to the No Limit Texas Holdem’ World Series in Las Vegas.
Despite all the different forms, gambling can be separated into two major categories, skill and luck. Participating in a sporting event, Black Jack and Poker are all examples of the skill section of gambling. This is where the final outcomes depends more on your individual skill, than the luck of the draw. Many people think card games are all about luck, but they are mistaken because only the most strategic and talented players will walk out with a profit. The luck...
