Teachers need direction in order to meet academic proficiencies and to keep student’s interest (Laureate Education, Inc., 2010). After exploring several learning theories and strategies, my own teaching practices are most often modeled by several strategies and learning theories. The Constructivism Theory resonates in some of the techniques I am using in the classroom. Reflecting on student activities and the design my lessons ; I find students are most often engaged in learning activities that are student driven and lead to students constructing their own conclusions. Student often work at stations and learn through team building and planned movement.
Distance learning creates unique challenges. Understanding one’s own intelligence type enables the student to create study plans that will best suit individual needs. In addition understanding intelligence types allows a student to recognize weakness in other areas, and formulate a plan for increasing ability in those types. The same can be said for personality types. Identifying what type of personality is present enables students develop study plans that are best suited for success.
The research design will then be introduced taking into account the theoretical frameworks and the review of the pertinent research. In this presentation, the qualitative study proposed is to learn the impact of educator perception on the impact of professional learning communities on student performance will be outlined. This will be followed with a discussion concerning the limitations of this study as well as precautions taken to protect those involved with the study. Theoretical Framework Organizational change and socio-cultural learning theories inform this study because they contextualize the problems with universal curriculum frameworks. It is through these theories that we will gain more insight into the issues associated with school system-wide leadership (Knapp, et al, 2008, p. 35).
Different people adjust to different strategies. Most people adjust to more than one strategy. We just need to identify which ones through assessment. How the Awareness of Learning Strategies Influence Teaching and Learning It is important for teachers to understand what a student is going through in their process of learning new information. If you know the learning style of the student, it is easier to convey the message you are trying to convey.
Explain the functions of assessment in learning and development Initial assessment in identifying learner needs The Initial assessment (IA) process could be classed as the most important information gathering process. It not only allows the teacher to decipher if the student is enrolling on the correct course for them but also to collect details about the learners past educational experiences, upbringing conditions i.e. a care environment and any particular learning issues. The initial assessment can be both formal and informal. Formal IA may be application forms, references and other relevant documentation.
The important influence of behaviors on learning can be studied by the behavior that occurs after learning has been initiated or stored. Behavior and learning are codependent on each other. Behavior is observable, and this makes the process of learning more easily observable as well. The two types of behavioral learning have aided in understanding the concepts involved in improved learning through conditioning. These new realizations have been converted into the classrooms to better educate students.
Social learning theory is about behavior that is learned from the environment through observational learning which could not occur unless cognitive processes are at work. This theory suggests that "humans are active information processors and think about the relationship between their behavior and its consequences". Since this focus group consisted of parents with children, this theory was appropriate to utilize. Generally, children observe the people around them that are behaving in different ways and perceive them as models. Those influential models include parents within the family, TV characters/commercials , friends, and school teachers which provide examples of behavior.
The assessment should be both formal and informal. For informal, the teacher may use observations for questions and students notes, and formal will be for the use of tests and essays. The teacher can track the student’s problem area and can adapt the lessons and help the student. All assessments need to be prepared to actively engage student’s in the lessons. When assessing an ELL students’ performance, there must be group work that will be close to the real world like problem solving and personal communication.
During Unit 3, the class explored students with exceptional needs, such as students with learning disabilities who have an IEP. One of the most important parts of this unit was the field report, in which we had to describe and analyze teaching practices for students with an IEP. By having us adapt a content standard for the student we observed, we were able to address TPE 9, “Instructional Planning.” TPE 9 in particular deals with differentiated instruction, which is what we specifically observed and wrote
All in all, learning to respect and treat “others just like you would want to be treated.” According to Laurence Steinberg (2011) she would describe this as “mutual role taking- In Selma’s theory, the stage of social perspective taking during which the young adolescent can be an objective third party and can see how the thoughts or actions of one person can affect those of another” (p. 79). Students are engaging in peer interactions during snack time, recreational time, and homework time, which supports the social domain. Steinberg (2011) states that “according to these theorists, adolescents learn how to behave not simply by being reinforced and punished by forces in the environment but also by watching and imitating those around them”
