The conditions that appeared to be associated with most childhood trauma are depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Traumatic events in childhood and stress or emotional instability at any period in life may be associated with the development of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). The following signs are offered as a guide for anyone interested in learning about the incidence of trauma. One or more signs shouldn't be an automatic confirmation that trauma is the issue. It should simply encourage us to slow down, pay attention, and explore the possibility more carefully; especially if we suspect that trauma has been part of the person's life.
A child who is the victim of prolonged sexual abuse usually develops low self-esteem, and feelings of worthlessness and an abnormal or distorted view of sex. The child may become withdrawn and mistrustful of adults, and can become suicidal. Often there are no obvious physical signs of child sexual abuse. Some signs can only be detected on physical exam by a physician.
Mood Instability: Appearing moody, irritable, throwing tantrums, screaming, yelling, changing moods (e.g., appearing comfortable or happy one minute, then becoming sad, angry or terrified the next). Unexplained outbursts of temper and sudden, unprovoked aggression, tantrums, sudden bouts of rage, screaming, throwing things or destroying property are all signs. Past or present diagnoses of Intermittent Explosive Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, or Impulse Control Disorder are easily used as a form of copping with the past traumatic experiences.
In some cases of trauma you might see signs of, avoidance of physical contact with others apprehensive when other children cries, wears clothing to purposely conceal injury, i.e. long sleeves, refuses to undress for gym or for required physical exams at school, gives inconsistent versions about occurrence of injuries, burns, falls etc. You may see that they...
