Career Narrative

Submitted by Bestial957 on May 21, 2008

It was almost forty years ago when we first created video games¹ and since then, people have molded them into a growingly complex technology. This technology has entertained us, fascinated us, and even taught us about our selves³. through digital renditions which without the development of computer modeling which game designers helped develop would not be possible. I want to be apart of this growing industry because I have played video games since a very young age and know a lot about what makes them tick. I have spent more hours on the computer tinkering and modifying games in a given day than most teenagers spend during the week. Video game designers create stories and create art for video games while also making the code that tells the computer what it should be doing for the game. I work well with computers and I can be very good at creating unique ideas.
The industry does not require any kind of college education, but it is recommended that you take at least a few classes so you can learn programming languages like C++ or Jass¹.Since I do not have the GPA or the will to go to a larger university I plan on going to a small community college for my freshman and sophomore years of college then transferring to a larger university while maintaining a major in computer science which will help my career path. The need for video and computer game designers should not decline anytime in the near future because our media becomes more and more integrated with computer technology it is expected to be a even more growing level of entertainment.
