Occupational Therapy
When a person gets older and grows up, most of the time they look for a career that interests them. There are many careers to choose from, and because of that it may be a difficult decision. Factors that inspire someone in choosing a career include what the career’s all about, the working conditions, the type of training and education required, and, of course, job earnings.
One of the many interesting, but skillful, careers is called Occupational Therapy. Occupational therapy is a type of treatment that helps people achieve independence in all areas of life. It is made to improve people’s physical skills, motor skills, and build self-esteem by the means of positive, fun, and active activities. Occupational therapy is designed to strengthen psychological, social, and environmental factors of people who are lacking them. People who may receive this type of treatment range from little children to the elderly. Specific reasons a person may have to obtain occupational therapy includes birth defects, sensory disorders, autism, arthritis, mental or behavior problems, severe burns, cancer, developmental delays, broken bones, etc (Pierson).
For every job, there are people who are considered the “workers.” The person who performs the treatment on a therapy patient is called a therapist. There are two types of therapists, an actual therapist and an assistant. A therapist requires a master’s degree and is the one who fills out a patient’s evaluation. An assistant only requires an associate’s degree and can carry out treatments, but cannot fill out an evaluation. Therapists and therapist assistants work in hospitals, schools, rehabilitation
