Abortion


Our nation is built on the idea of freedom but even today woman are restrained from practicing their freedom in certain ways. This restraint women have is called abortion. The people in favor of abortions believe it is a right for women to have one if they so please and that women have full control over any decision made concerning their bodies. From the pro-choice view, life begins at birth. Pro-choice people do not encourage abortion but they acknowledge the right of the women to do such a thing. Before 1973 abortion was illegal in this country forcing millions of women to obtain illegal abortions. Between 1946 and 1972 it is estimated that there were anywhere from 11 million to 32 million (about.com) such abortions. That resulted in the deaths of over 7,000 women (about.com) nation wide. Not having the right to an abortion denies women their right to privacy and liberty. However, ever since Roe vs. Wade (supreme court decision regarding the legality of abortion. This decision made abortions legal in every state. Abortion has been one of the most controversial issues in the United States due to the moral and ethical dilemmas it arises.
Unlike the pro-choice view on abortion, pro-life people feel that human life begins at conception and that an abortion would be killing a life, intentionally. These people feel abortion is immoral and call it murder. Their argument is the right of every person to life as said in the declaration of independence. Pro-life people are the ones truly commiting a crime in lobbying for abortion to be illegal. This is so because it is the constitutional right of women to do what they want with their bodies. A human being is technically created when the sperm fertilizes the egg but personally I feel if we constitute death by the absence of a heartbeat, then life should be defined as the presence of a heartbeat thus meaning abortion up until the point a fetus has a heartbeat it is not...
