I would have liked to have more information from the Amish perspective than the outside world’s view, but there was significant conclusions drawn from what was available. It seems the program has a good start in the community and will be beneficial for other Amish communities to get started. I was intrigued by the multicultural aspects of the article and where it has went in the media. There has been more information available for the public in regards to the Amish way of life. They have always valued their privacy, which made it interesting to see that they have allowed some of their cultural aspects to be shed to the public.
Generally acceptance is more than just tolerating differences that exists among different groups of people in a community. There is need to fully understand how the differences come about. The moment one understands how the differences arise, it becomes easy for him or her appreciate others from a totally different culture. This eventually creates an environment of cultural pluralism that is all inclusive. In the case of the United States, it is possible to make reference to the law and ensure that cultural pluralism is achieved.
A range of different things. This can mean differences in race, heritage, belief systoms, physician appearances, etc. Diversity is valued so that people can accept other people and their differences. Diversity should also valued because no on is completely the same even within the categories that I have used for examples. It is important to value diversity in order to work together.
This all promotes that everyone is equal but recognising that everyone has difference but should still be treated the same. You can support others to promote diversity, equality and inclusion by encouraging others to embrace difference, rather than rejecting it, just because it is not familiar to you through reducing fear and anxiety, broadening experience, increasing understanding and encouraging collaboration sharing thoughts and ideas with a wide range of people. All this will help support others.
There are many benefits to having a diverse workforce for an organisation. The biggest benefit is the creativity this brings in when making decisions or finding solutions to issues. Different cultures can give you a completely different insight in decision making. Also, with diversity you will get a completely different way of working which can inspire a team’s productivity. 1.4, 7.4 The benefits to working in a diverse workforce is that it gives me confidence to talk to people that are different age, gender, race, religion etc.
He states that ethnic diversity is a stepping-stone for varying perspectives and even more skillsets to a particular population. As a result of this collection of ranging views and skillsets, society is perceived to unify and bond over these ideals rather than segregate from one another. “Diversity might actually reduce both in-group and out-group solidarity….both bonding and bridging together of social capital” (Putnam, 2007). In other words, a more self-less, unified and society is formed due to tolerance and acceptance of others ideals, preferences and values amongst co-ethnics and non co-ethnics. This idea plays well in hand with the principle that cultures and ethnic identities are formed with shared values and preferences.
Maximizing and capitalizing on workplace diversity has become an important issue for mana). There are some benefits of a diverse society, such as attitudes, goals or a person characteristics and this is due to learning so much from all types of people and their background. I think by the civil and tolerant acceptance I believe that we should all treat one another with respect and treat people as they want to be treated. Mass Media, such as the cinema and television have already shaped society and
Summary Response: Final Draft While reading Daniel Akst’s article “What Meets the Eye” I realized how much I agree with his opinion that our level of attractiveness may or may not help us in life. There are many understandings people have in this society. I got the chance to understand the point of view how people have different perspectives of others having principles and expectations. Many people worry about how they look, and Akst talks about how researchers have observations on how other people dress instead of focusing on the individual personality. He talks about appearances on what a person thinks about another person.
The media isn't completely evil though, they do show appreciation towards other cultures in America through covering culturally based events and festivals that show Americans that there is much pride in being from another country in the United States. Many older generations are still prejudice to this and I don't think there is a way to change that so focusing on the younger generation and hoping for a change in the future is a smarter goal to work towards. Everyone can work towards this as individuals and practice the wonderful person-centered thinking, we can also work together to build this idea into a way to reduce prejudice and increase the appreciation for diversity by showing people how many things in America actually would not be
Every person is unique and is individual so in order to promote equality it is important to treat everyone fairly. Each person has their own needs, wishes and preferences so it is imperative that these are respected. “Diversity” is another way of explaining “differences” and it’s important for us to realise that although often people may have many things in common with each other, they can also at the same time be very different and unique in many ways. We need to understand and recognize those differences, moreso than just simply tolerate them, so that we can embrace and value those people which will in itself produce a more conducive environment for all. The result of this should lead to “inclusion” which is about creating a sense of belonging, feeling included, feeling respected and valued, even though it may be that that person lacks some advantages.
