Kennywood Lab Report

Title: Time vs. the Number of People in Line
Prediction: I predicted that as time increases the number of people in line would still be relatively around the same number because the same number of people goes on the ride each time so therefore the time will not affect the number of people in line.
Purpose: The purposed of this experiment was to see if the time and the number of people in line at the Cosmic Chaos.
Experimental Design, Apparatus, and Procedure
Independent Variable: time
Dependent Variable: the number of period in line at that time period
Constant Variables: I used the same ride, Cosmic Chaos, and the same time interval, 1 minute.
Materials:
1. Timer
2. Paper
3. Pencil
Diagram:

Procedures:
1. Go to the Cosmic Chaos
2. Stand in a position in which you can see all of the people in line
3. Count the number of people in line for that one minute
4. Then at the 2nd minute recount the number and so on until you get 10 trials which means 10 minutes
5. Record the data
Hazards/ Safety
When you are doing this experiment be careful to not get in people’s way and not run into objects and such.
Data/ Observations
Trial Number of People in Line
1 40
2 38
3 36
4 33
5 41
6 35
7 40
8 36
9 43
10 34

During this experiment I observed that the numbers really varied. I guess that this was due to the fact that as people went on the ride not the same amount of people got into line.
Evaluation of Data
The relationship between the time and the number of people in line has no relation towards each other. The y-intercept makes no sense because I did not start counting with 37.73 people already there. So then I did the 5% rule and...
