Agatha Christie’s famous disappearance
On December 3, 1926, a famous mystery writer disappeared. Her seventh novel, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd was on the best-seller lists, and everything supposedly seemed well on the outside. Even with all her great works of literature, Agatha Christie was very emotional. She had heard the news of her mother’s death couple months prior to the incident. She was always very close to her mother and it was a devastating loss for her. She also discovered that her husband, Archie, was in love with another woman, Nancy Nelee. This was a huge shock for her. She had no idea that her beloved husband had connections with another woman. About 9:45 PM, she stated that she go on a drive for a little while. The next morning her car was found abandoned several miles away, and some of her clothes and identifications were found scattered in side the car. She was no where to be found. For the 11 days that she had disappeared, the whole country was in an uproar. There were suggestion of suicide, drowning, and a lot of other ideas. This was the first time that aero planes were used for a search. 15,000 people, along with the police volunteered to assist in finding the loved author. Meanwhile, Agatha had gone to a health spa in Harrogate Hotel under the name of Teresa Nelee which is quite anticlimactic. (“Agatha Christie: Biography of an Author” & Adams Cecil: April, 2 1982)
There are two theories as to why this occurred to her discovered when she was found in the Harrogate Hotel. The first one was said by Agatha herself when she was found.
