William James once said, “Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives.” Whether you believe this statement or not, it is true that Andrew Carnegie changed his circumstances dramatically by altering his mindset. He came from a poor family but grew to enormous wealth through determination, diligence, and enthusiasm. Andrew Carnegie was a captain of business because he revolutionized the steel industry, formed public benefits, and encouraged individual prosperity to people of all opportunities who worked diligently.
Andrew Carnegie’s huge and efficient companies speed up and improved industrial growth. He hired Frick, a managing director, to ensure that each employee worked to his full potential to maximize company production and efficiency. Additionally he was first to use the Bessemer process to increase production. According to document A, Carnegie’s company produced more steel than all the companies in Great Britain aggregated. He used a cheap and efficient method to produce steel that helped him to achieve this enormous production. According to Document I, the steel manufacturing business wages were above the poverty line and largely above the average salary for that time. This shows that steel was a strong market and therefore was doing tremendously well. It also suggests that people seeking employment would be drawn to the steel industry, which would help its growth further. Carnegie Steel produced hug amounts of steel using modern efficient methods that increased industrial growth in America. Andrew was a captain of business because he revolutionized the steel industry from a relatively ordinary market to a thriving, hugely profitable one.
