2.) A tragic hero is someone that brings the problem or their fall on themselves. They also have good qualities that resonate with the audience but, it is their own flaw that brings to their downfall. In Hamlet, Hamlet himself is the hero. His death could have been avoided many times. Hamlet was a well liked guy by the people in the story. Claudius had to be good to Hamlet for the sake of the people in the community and because of Gertrude. Hamlet had an opportunity to avoid his death when he snuck up behind Claudius, when he was in his bed chamber. Hamlet could have killed Claudius then and there but decided not to. Had Hamlet killed Claudius he could have had his revenge for his father and his problems would have ended.
Hamlet’s tragic flaw is procrastination. Although Hamlet is characterized as daring, brave, loyal, and intelligent, he is overwhelmed by his own conscience. There are several occasions in the story when this happens. Hamlet mourns the death of his father and has a hard time with the fact that his mother got remarried so quickly. If he told his mother early on that he had a problem with Claudius much of his grief and anger could have been avoided. His emotions and procrastination also get in the way of telling Ophelia how he truly feels about her. He goes on pretending that he’s crazy for so long he eventually turns Ophelia away. He is then left with the pain of her death and knowing that she’ll never know how he really felt. If Hamlet hadn’t procrastinated so much, immense heartache could have been avoided and even his own death. But if he had avoided all of that it wouldn’t have made such a great tragedy and he wouldn’t have been the tragic hero.
6.) The scene in the story with the gravedigger provided needed much comic relief. Looking past the puns, we find a big theme in the story in Hamlet’s conversation with the gravedigger. The universal theme that everything comes back to is the inevitability of death and the fact that...
