Coach Parks saw that I was gonna b real tall and he played me at the center position on the court. From there I learned a couple things about the position and a lot about the game. At the end of the year when I was 14 and still thinking about whether I should try out for the freshman school team he came and talked to me and convinced me to do so. Over that summer he worked with me on my conditioning and speed and most importantly my understanding of the game and my part in it. Over that summer I saw myself improve as a player.
I might have limited knowledge about the sports that I possess, but I feel that I could learn so much more. There are 20 different jobs in the Kinesiology career and I know if I cant follow one then I have a lot more options. The career as a coach is one of my goals, but as long as I’m in the sports line of work then I will be fine with that. I coached kids from ages five to eighteen which I enjoyed so much. I worked for a sports program that I was in charge of the sports for the whole Marine Corps Camp Pendleton Base.
My first practice finally arrived, and I made my practice plan out, but I wanted to think about what I was going to say to the young eleven year olds. I kept thinking for over an hour and I couldn’t think of the right thing, but finally I figured out the perfect speech. I remember exactly what I said I told the kids that 5th grade basketball is about getting better so you can play at the high school level. I told them it has nothing to do with winning, of course everyone likes to win, that’s not the most important part. Never focus on the winning aspect of the game; focus on making yourself the best player you can be, and the wins will come.
It was the first day of soccer try outs and I knew I was good enough to make the JV team. However, new school, new friends, and new surroundings got me actually worried that I won’t be good enough. I never even thought about making the varsity team, but it happened. I was excited to make the varsity team, and compete on a high level. Unfortunately I didn’t start as we had an experienced team, with only one more freshmen that made the varsity team.
I never really knew what being part of a team meant until I played with those girls and that is an experience I have never forgotten even today. As I got older and in high school being part of a team became more common with the DECA club, Student Council, and the Dance Team. Each of these teams are all different in their own way but they each individually taught me skills that I still use to this day. Now that I am older I have realized that not everyone has the same idea or definition of what a team exactly is. As a student at the University of Phoenix working in teams is a big part of my school assignments each week.
In first grade I joined an organization that would influence and shape me in every facet of my life. At that time I had no idea that that Boy Scouts of America would become my education, serve as my passion, and form one of my largest social circles. I progressed through the ranks, serving as every major youth leadership position, earning leadership, rank, and religious awards, and even developed a youth leadership course for the University of Scouting. I got involved with Scouting’s national honor society, the Order of the Arrow, and worked for five years on our council’s summer camp staff. When I received the Order’s Vigil Honor (highest national honor) in April 2006, I spent the night in the woods, alone, keeping a fire going while challenging
When I first arrived on the football team there were no expectations. It was the teams’ second year varsity and they just recovered from a defeated season (0-10). The year I played we went 4-6, this season I made the varsity team as a freshman. My role on the team was not important up until my junior year, but my sophomore year is what changed me the most. My sophomore year my team went 12-0(undefeated) we won the thing.
Mike Kabbout Mrs.Tattam English 3 Period 3 8 September 2014 My First Race I have always been fast, no doubt about it, but when I transitioned into high school, my friends told me to join cross country. I was skeptical at first. This was the first time I had ever heard of a sport like this. I had decided to try it out anyway. I met the cross country coach, Coach Belo.
My sophomore year, I placed eleventh out of over 130 students at the very competitive state level. Because of DECA, I am much more comfortable communicating with business professionals and expressing knowledge in business topics. I actively participate in National Honor Society, as well, and I currently serve as the vice president. National Honor Society recognizes students of high academic standing and places an emphasis on community involvement. As vice president of National Honor Society, I have led efforts such as our annual canned food drive and peer tutoring activities.
As the regular season came to an end our team was the second seed out of 8 teams in the playoffs. At such a young age I didn’t quite understand what playoffs were, but I knew that they were important so I continued to play my heart out. My team continued to win games and we ended up in the
