Steps in essay writing
Three steps are necessary to write a good essay: the thesis statement, the body of the essay and the conclusion.
An essay can have many purposes, but the basic structure is the same no matter what. Whether the purpose of the essay is maybe to argue a particular point of view or to explain a subject, the first step necessary to take in consideration in order to accomplish a good essay is the composition of a thesis that states the points to be developed about the topic. The second step is the support of the thesis in the body paragraphs. The last step is the sum up of the points that were developed in the body in a conclusion. Essays will have the same basic format. Supplying ideas for the essay can be difficult but if following those three steps, an essay almost write itself.
When preparing to write an essay, write down ideas about the topic. Those ideas can come from brainstorming or from a research. It is very helpful for the thesis statement. For example, suppose the topic of the essay is “tourism in Hawaii”. By writing down what activities can be performed by tourists, it will be easy to find out that you can sort those activities in three categories that are snorkeling, surfing, and sailing are the good choices to be developed in the body of the essay. It will be easy then to state the thesis which that announces the three point to be developed. Organize the ideas into an outline, keeping in mind the method or methods of paragraph development (details, examples, reasons, cause and effect, comparison/contrast). Using an outline, begin a rough draft. Make sure that every sentence in the thesis statement is directly related to the assigned topic. Do not stray off the topic!
