Early mornings , long days, busy show grounds and the hot sun. To me, this is my favorite place,
there is nowhere id rather be than at a horse show with all my friends, riding coach, competition and my best
friend, Trick, my four year old horse.
I started riding at the age of six after I went to my step dads farm and rode my first horse, Digby.
After that I begged my mom to put me into lessons, and a month later there I was at York Equestrian Riding
School ready for my first lesson. I was instantly in love. The smell, peaceful sounds, people with the same
passions and the feeling of love when each horse greats you as you walk by.
Everything I loved about being at the barn and being with the horses, all became more exciting
when all my hard worked paid off at my first horse show. The excitement of getting up early, putting on all
my show cloths, pants, shirt, show jacket and then heading to the barn at 6am, seemed like the beginning of
the best day ever. I was going to show a large pony named Shannon. I remember being very nervous as I
tacked her up and got ready to enter the ring. A simple course laid ahead of me, six jumps only 2’3 and one
judge watching my every move. After my coerce I was beaming, it had to be the most exciting, nerve
wracking moment ever ,and I loved it ! At the end of the long day I drove away with a 2nd, 3rd,4th and 6th
place ribbon and I could not wait for the next show.
Now showing is a huge part of my life. The joy of going a day ahead to spend a day with my horses
bathing him, cleaning tack, talking about who and what everyone will be showing the next day is all I live
for. The peaceful barn and excited horses who seem to understand what is happening the next day reminds
me of why I love the sport.
The day of the show is when the real magic happens. It is the only day hat I love waking up early
and knowing I have a very long day ahead of me. The...
