Kaeja D’Dance pushes all the contemporary boundaries. It is the definition of contemporary with two amazing, award winning Co – Artistic Directors – Karen & Allen Kaeja. Their work is amazing and enjoyed by all.

Originally, Allen practised wrestling and judo, but after 9 years he took up dancing. Allen Kaeja is a remarkable dancer, Gemini nominated director and an Award Winning choreographer. He has won many awards which include - Clifford E. Lee, K.M. Hunter and Paul D. Fleck Choreography Awards (Canada), Bonnie Bird Award (UK), UNESCO citation and Best Performance in a Dance Film (Canada). Since 1982, he has choreographed over 70 different dances and they have appeared in over 17 films. His work has been seen in festivals all around the world including - Sweden, Israel, UK, Portugal, India, Mexico, Venezuela, Spain and the USA. Allen is currently working on “Abattoir” with many of Toronto’s talented artists.

Karen Kaeja’s work has been seen all over the world. She has honours BFA from York University and has created over 30 different choreographies. She has been seen in over 20 countries including Sweden, India and Canada. In 2005, she was awarded the Paul D. Fleck Fellowship for artistic innovation, as well as, the Moving Pictures award for Best Performance. She has also been nominated for the 10th annual American Choreography Awards for Departure and the 2006 Banff World Television Award. She will continue to devote her career to contemporary dance, education and film.

Together Karen and Allen create a dynamic duo, a force to be reckoned with. They are the heart of Kaeja D’Dance. They work with outstanding dancers, composers, musicians and designers. They bring different themes to their work that relates with family, history, community and the human condition.
