After reading the assignment sheet I decided to survey my floor about their stance on abortion. Since we live at a liberal college in a liberal state I figured that the majority of responses would b e pro-choice. When discussing abortion one needs to remember that it is a very touchy issue, hence the reason for the controversy behind it. 16 out of the 20 residents on my floor stated that they were pro choice 3 said they were pro life and 1 had no opinion. Many people tend to believe that abortion is a justified action due to its legality. I believe that the ability to give abortions is a marvel of modern medicine and they should be used in extreme cases only. I believe that abortions should be used in cases of rape, incest, and other extreme scenarios. I do not think this should be a technology used in order to allow wealthy teenage girls to be sexually promiscuous and then go take the easy way out in order to attend college. This behavior teaches that even the most serious decisions such as sex can be reversed at the push of a button. The message this puts across is one that says you do not be responsible what you do or allow others to do to your body and you can just have an abortion to fix everything. This teaches not only teenage girls but also teenage boys that we do not need to be responsible for our actions in life.
I am not one to preach because I am a strong believer in personal liberties but people need to sit back and think “What is abortion?” Honestly speaking, abortion is the murder of an unborn child. It is the destruction of a human life. What's more appalling is that the young mothers are either paying or having someone else pay for their child's murder .People have argued that a baby is not yet alive. However by the eighteenth day of pregnancy the heart of the fetus begins to beat.
