The present day United States is having economic problems.   Three major automaker companies are on a verge of a bankruptcy: Ford, Chrysler, and General Motors (G.M.).   The American automakers are one of the most important industries in the American economy.   Barack Obama called automakers “the backbone of American manufacturing.”   Currently, the American automakers are making attempts to create hybrid cars and fuel-efficient cars.   Consumers show more interest in smaller cars.   Smaller cars are more fuel-efficient and they are friendly to the environment.   If the “Big Three” companies were to collapse, it would cost at least three million jobs.   More jobless citizens will be unsatisfactory and Barack Obama has to make a bold move in his first hundred days of presidency.   In his first one hundred days, President Obama should only rescue three of “The Big Three” automakers if they agree to meet specific environmental regulations through the production and development of hybrid cars that will enable our country to become a “greener” nation.
In the early 1980s of the American car industries, cars such as the Chevrolet Corvette, the Ford Mustang and Ford Taurus, and the Chrysler’s K-car were fuel-efficient and gave their companies an enormous boot. (Micheline 6). In 1999, while we luxuriated in $1.26 for a gallon of oil, Germans were paying $3.62 and the Japanese $3.26.   It is not a surprise that foreign manufacturers came to perfect the production of smaller, more fuel-efficient cars: their customers could not afford to run thirstier vehicles. (Moritz 10).
The “Big Three” American automakers are creating a wide range of cars and are still selling less.   Between the “Big Three”, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler sell one hundred and twelve different car and truck models through fifteen brands in the United States.(Vlasic 1).   By contrast, the top three Japanese automakers-Toyota, Honda, and Nissan have roughly half as many choices with fifty-eight models combined...
