Immigration Policy: Affirmative


Statement of Belief: I feel that it would be in our best interest to reinforce the immigration policy. The immigration policy negates the option for immigrants to come into our country that could potentially be terrorists. Every unskilled illegal immigrant who enters the United States for work takes a job away from an unskilled American and drives down the wages for unskilled workers. People are dying everyday by attempting to cross the border. We are a nation of immigrants, but we are also a nation of laws. Lawlessness should not be tolerated in the United States – especially not from nationals of other countries.
Reason 1: Terrorism- It seems clear that the 19 terrorists of September 11 were all foreign citizens and entered the United States legally, as tourists, business travelers, or students. While it is absolutely essential that we do not place the blame on immigrants, especially Muslim immigrants, we also must not overlook the most obvious fact: the current terrorist threat to the United States comes almost exclusively from individuals who arrive from abroad. Thus, our immigration policy, including temporary and permanent visas issuance, border control, and efforts to deal with illegal immigration are all critical to reducing the chance of an attack in the future.
Reason 2: Unemployment:- Employment of immigrants decreases the employment of domestic workers. There is a certain number of jobs in the economy in which the average worker is unwilling to perform. Most of these jobs only require high school education. When immigrants come along and take these particular jobs, then these jobs are no longer available for a legal resident.
Reason 3: Death- Nationwide, at least 291 illegal immigrants have died during border crossing attempts from Oct. 1 through Sunday. That includes 75 deaths due to heat exposure, 45 drownings, and 42 motor vehicle incidents. This following is a...
