Global Warming is a Real Problem

Global warming can be described in its simplest form by an increase in temperature on the Earth. American Heritage Dictionary defines it as “an increase in the average temperature of the earth's atmosphere, especially a sustained increase sufficient to cause climatic change.” The temperature change is relatively small but can have drastic effects on the living things on this planet. ("Global Warming 17 in Miami, USA - For Students") Sadly humans are mainly to blame for global warming. Certain gases are released into the atmosphere, mainly from energy use; these gases come from fossils fuels in most cases. (National Energy Information Center) Global warming is becoming a more serious problem everyday and I don’t think people know that everyday they make an impression on the future of the earth. I think people need to start doing the little things to help out the environment, they need to know the consequences of their actions, and the major causes of global warming.
The causes of global warming were under speculation and debate a few years ago but now most scientists agree where the majority of it comes from. Carbon dioxide and other air are collecting in the atmosphere like, trapping the sun's heat inside the atmosphere, causing the planet to warm up. Coal-burning power plants are the largest U.S. source of carbon dioxide emissions. Automobiles are the second largest source. The U.S. is the main source of CO2 and other greenhouse gases, Americans produce 25% of the world’s CO2 but only make up about 4% of the world’s population. (“Global Warming Basics”)
