The world has changed its technology over the years. Advancing from one object to the next. Some of the very first devices, whether its for communication, entertainment, and so on, will be mentioned.
A pager, or a beeper, is a personal device of communication used for requesting a call or sending a text message. It was invented in 1956 in London, mostly for doctors who had emergencies to go to. There are three types of pagers: numeric, alphanumeric, and two-way alphanumeric. Numeric pagers are the simplest which show only a phone number to be called. Alphanumeric pagers show the phone number and have the ability to receive a text. Two-way alphanumeric pagers not only receive the number and the text, but also have the ability to send text messages with a small keyboard.
A television, or commonly known as TV, is a system for broadcasting moving pictures and sounds through a screen. It is widely used and very common, almost every household has one. It was first available in the late 1930s and from then on other devices have been created for it, which will be mentioned later. However, the TV’s design has changed a lot. Back then, it looked like a big box with a small screen, and had more buttons for power, volume, brightness, contrast, channel tuning, and so on. Nowadays, the TV is sold mostly as a big, flat screen (or a flat panel called “LCD” or “plasma”) and it looks a whole lot better. There are different sized screens in width and length, but the depth is as thick as 1 inch. It’s much more convenient but could be a little more expensive than a regular TV.
VCR stands for Video Cassette Recording. It is a device that plays tapes. It was the first successful home system to watch videocassettes on the television. It is also used to record television programs. They were first built around the 1960s and were available to buy around the 1970s. There are two types of VCR technology, which are Betamax, and more common, VHS.
