world end it 2012?
There has been a lot of interest lately in the theory that the world is going to end in 2012. Hollywood even made a movie, 2012, about the events the Mayans predict will happen. 2012 premiered in theaters on November 13, 2009. So, is this something we need to take seriously? Could Earth really be in danger?
There are many variations with the Doomsday Theory, but the most common is the collision with the planet known as Nibiru in 2012. The result would be the total destruction of Earth and mankind. According to the theory, the planet Nibiru orbits the sun once every 3600 years, making it very difficult to view. The theory was given life when an experiment using infared technology showed over 350,000 unidentified objects in the sky.
A group of conspiracy theories claim that one of those unidentified objects in the sky was Nibiru. Subsequent studies carried out by people around the world quickly identified these objects using telescopes, and none of them were planets. Many ignorant people chose to believe that the government is just lying to us about their results. This is unlikely, considering they would have to conspire with thousands of astronomers around the world to keep it a secret.
Another events that is supposedly going to happen in 2012 that could cause complete disaster for planet Earth is a collision with an asteroid. The fact is yes, a large asteroid or comet could someday collide with Earth. However, the truth is that meteorites collide with Earth everyday but thankfully cause no damage. The good news is that an object large enough to do any serious damage would be easy to see, and NASA does a great job watching and monitoring all the objects in our solar system. The likelihood of one of these objects colliding with Earth is slim to none. We would most likely be aware that an object like that was coming years before, and hopefully we would have time to prevent the collision.
Conspiracy theorists didn’t claim the world was...
